We are currently going through selling our house, which according to a well-known statistic is the second most stressful things you can go through after divorce.
When we bought our house we were first time buyers, and that was reasonably stressful, mainly because things did not go as quick as we would have liked, seeing as there was no chain at either end of the sale - I'm not known for my patience! But this is the first time we have sold a property as well as bought one. Oh the pitfalls! I'm sure I don't need to tell a lot of you about this, and I'm sure a lot of you have worse stories than us.
Our buyer has been a right royal pain in the arse, and then last night decided to pull out! He had instructed a rather in depth survey, where the surveyor required access to our house for 4 hours (fortunately my best mate was able to sit in for us). After this the buyer then instructed a damp inspector. Our house is over 100 years old, so yes, he was bound to find damp! (The damp inspector did not look happy when he arrived, he really gave off the impression that this was a waste of his time.) He confirmed that any damp he found would be expected in a house of it's age, and he would regard as general maintenance.
So anyway, this said, although these reports have been done and his mortgage company still feel that our house is worth the money, he has decided not to follow through with the purchase because he doesn't want any work to do, even IF we dropped the price by £10K, which would not happen!!!!! This guy is NEVER going to find a house, not in that price range with NO work to do (in fact, ALL houses need maintenance, that's the responsibility we take on when we buy property!) Apparently this guy has been looking for over a year, so if our EX-buyer DOES happen to be reading this, I have one piece of advice for you, "STAY IN RENTED ACCOMMODATION, coz you and owning a property ain't ever gonna happen!"
And my consolation is that he has wasted over £500 on surveys!!! Ha Ha!
