Tomorrow night sees the first of our summer concerts, to be held at the Guildhall in Hull. Last night we were at rehearsal and everyone was in fine voice. We also have another rehearsal scheduled for tonight, as Monday night's was cancelled due to the horrific weather.
There are a number of people within the group who's houses were affected by the flooding, who had still turned out for last night's rehearsal. I expect that getting together for a good old sing song was a good distraction from what is going on at home. I have to say that I quite often find the same, that if things are bit stressful at home or work, going to a rehearsal, spending time with people who are good friends and singing my heart out does help.
Last night I heard my friends Neil and Janet sing the duet that they are singing on Friday night for the first time. In fact it was the first time I had ever heard the song at all. They are going to be singing "A Song That Goes Like This" from Spamalot. I won't say much, just in case you do not know it and are planning to come along to the concert, but it was very funny. My friend Katherine pointed out that she was glad that she had heard it prior to the concert, as we have to sit in front of the audience whilst the soloists are performing, and she may have had problems with not weeing herself in front of everyone. I am inclined to agree with her, but then people who know Katherine and I know that we are not always a good influence on each other, and have problems holding in the giggles!
Anyway, good luck to Neil, Janet and the other soloists for Friday night. And don't forget Hessle Theatre Company's "From Broadway to Berkley Square" concert at Hull's Guildhall tomorrow night, Friday 29th June, starting at 7:30 prompt, tickets are available on the door at £6.
