Barnum rehearsals are now in full swing, and it has to be said it's hard work. I honestly thought that after all the hard work we had for Titanic we might be in for an easier ride this year. Anything had to be easier after the horrifically high tenor lines written into Titanic. But oh no! We tenors are NOT in for a rest this year. The tenor part in Barnum is just as high as Titanic and has some particularly difficult harmonies. It has to be said though that when everyone is singing their lines together it sounds fantastic.
I would also like to point out, for fear of being lynch-mobbed at next week's rehearsal, it is not only the tenors who have a difficult time of it. Even the sopranos are being given harmony lines in this production, when they are normally used to getting the tune. Everyone is having to work really hard this year. It will be worth it, and things already seem to be coming together.
I'm looking forward to things really getting going. this is going to be a really exciting production. The songs are really coming on and next month we start to learn the floor work, which will no doubt involve some circus tricks and acrobatics! Best keep going to the gym then!!!!!
Oh, and on that note.... Suzanne, I am still going - you owe me a bottle of wine.
